This 1961 Post baseball card set was the company’s first major set. The cards were available on thick cardbox stock that could be ordered from the company and were available singly or in different panel sizes from cereal boxes (BOX). Team sheets were printed on thinner cardboard stock directly from the Post Cereal Company(COM).
Differentiating between the two is best done by feeling the thickness of the stock. Many of the 1961 Post baseball cards were produced in lesser quantity and the scarcity of these cards places a higher value on them. Examples of cards printed in limited quantity include cards 10, 23, 70, 73, 94, 113, 135, 163, and 183. The entire 1961 Post baseball card set includes 357 cards with all the variations. There was also an album made by Post to hold the cards.
Outstanding cards in the 1961 Post baseball set are Mickey Mantle #4A-COM and #4B-Box, G. McDougald #10- BOX only, Bob Shaw #23-BOX only, Chuck Estrada #73-COM only, Harmon Killebrew (Minneapolis) #92B-Box, Chuck Stobbs (Minnesota) #94A-COM only, R. Clemente #132A-COM and #132B-BOX, Mel Roach #163-Box only, and Roy McMillan #183-BOX only.
